All bus services are run under the Länstrafiken Örebro brand. Within the Region the Kollektivtrafiknämnd is responsible for public transport. The Public Transport division (Område Kollektivtrafik) of the Regional Development (Regional utveckling) Administration are responsible for planning and development.
Region Örebro County is also part owner of the regional rail companies Tåg i Bergslagen and Mälardalstrafik AB. Planning work regarding regional train services in Mälardalen is primarily handled via Mälardalstrafik AB (MÄLAB) and Tåg i Bergslagen (TiB), which deal with issues concerning planning, transport services, marketing, travel passes and strategic development.
General public transport goals for 2025
The goals of the traffic provision programme focus on the contribution made by public transport to achieving the goals set out in the regional development strategy.
By 2025, public transport in the Örebro Region will have:
- Sweden’s most satisfied passengers
- 5 million more journeys compared with 2015
- A market share of at least 40% on the busiest routes
- A 35% reduction in energy consumption per person kilometre
- Made the city traffic’s core routes and train and express services very accessible to all passengers
Region Örebro County works actively with the development of the region's infrastructure, logistics, public transport and sustainable community planning. The goal is for the region to grow, develop and become even more attractive as a place to both work and live.
Good communication is a prerequisite for being attractive as a region. The opportunity for good communications, housing and jobs are important elements that help to create an attractive region.
How are decisions made regarding public transport in the county?
The county’s future public transport is described in a transport provision programme (Trafikförsörjningsprogrammet). The programme has been adopted by the Region Örebro County Regional Assembly (Regionfullmäktige). The programme has been politically approved, and includes goals and fundamental principles regarding the future development of public transport.
